Taproom Assistant General Manager
Location: Almanac Beer Co., Alameda & Oakland CA
Reports to: Taproom General Manager
Compensation: Starting base salary $75,000/annual with bonus potential
The Taproom Assistant General Manager serves as the second-in-command to the Taproom General Manager, helping to oversee all of the day-to-day operations of the Alameda & West Oakland Taprooms, including public, private, & off-site events. The Taproom AGM must demonstrate a track record of superlative customer service as well as the ability to establish and achieve company objectives in sales, marketing, service, quality and appearance while maintaining a positive, innovative and success-driven culture.
Together with senior management, The Taproom AGM will strategize and execute a holistic plan to build Almanac’s various DTC/Taproom efforts into cohesive and profitable best-in-class operations in order to develop the absolute best customer experiences in California.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Profitable Growth
- Help oversee cost control and profitability of the taproom including managing product costs, labor costs and general operating and administrative costs
- Analyze financial reports and actively monitor budgets to ensure a profitable, cost-efficient operation
- Work with GM & EVP of Sales to generate measurable revenue growth ideas & customer experience improvements
- Work with GM & EVP of Sales to drive/execute taproom social media strategy
Taproom Staff Management
- Assist in hiring and managing all taproom staff including employee onboarding/offboarding, scheduling, facilitating regular staff meetings, conducting annual performance reviews & disciplinary action
- Manage taproom staff training including beer service training, draft beer quality mechanics, product education, de-escalation techniques, & safe alcohol service
- Oversee daily shift responsibilities and employee productivity
- Maintain a safe, healthy working environment for staff, ensuring all company policies and compliance regulations are understood and adhered to
- Serve and perform backup duties for other taproom employees when needed
Enhanced Customer Experience
- Create and maintain a best-in-class customer service experience. This includes any and all aspects of guest experience including a “guest first” posture; positive staff attitude; polite and courteous service; maintaining a clean and safe environment including pristine bathrooms and clean interior/exterior seating areas; comfortable music volume and generally creating a family-friendly atmosphere at all times. “Find a way to say yes” culture.
- Manage guest satisfaction and overall brewery visitor experience
Taproom Operations
- Assist in management, ordering, & delivery of taproom inventories & supplies
- Work with EVP of Sales & GM on the coordination/execution of all special events (public & private) hosted in the taproom
- Maintain the physical condition of the bar and taproom including cleanliness, repairs, maintenance and remodeling
- Assist in creation and execution of Standard Operating Procedures for taproom operations
- Assist with other taproom operations duties as assigned
- Maintain taproom cash handling best practices; responsible for daily cash drawer reconciliation and bank deposits
Private Event Operations
- Work with EVP of Sales to coordinate private event inquiries; Manage active communication platforms with event leads & provides pricing quotes in a timely manner
- Provide tours of private event spaces for potential leads
- Manages private event setup, execution, & timely breakdown
- Manages private event payment processes including but not limited to: invoice generation, timely payment tracking, & beverage minimum oversight
Off-Site Event Operations
- Manage and execute all revenue-generating off-site events and related operations (i.e. Farmer’s Markets, Night Markets, private tastings, dinner pairings, special pop-ups etc), including administrative operations and inventory management, staff management, delivery logistics, event day-of logistics and maintaining visual standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have extensive experience (1-3+ years) and proven management success. Brewery experience is NOT REQUIRED. Hospitality/retail experience preferred.
- Impeccable service standards with attention to detail and ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced atmosphere
- Professional demeanor, helpful/positive mien and polished appearance with the ability to interact constructively with all patrons and team members
- Proven ability to lead others and positively influence employee behavior
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work a flexible and rotating schedule, including morning/mid/evening & weekend shifts.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
- Must pass post-offer pre-employment background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to stand for extended periods of time
- Able to regularly twist, turn, lift supplies and equipment up to 50-lb (I.e., cases of beer, bags of malt)
- Able to move 155-lb kegs of beer (using appropriate techniques and tools).
- Able to work in a production environment where noise level is usually moderate to loud and warehouse temperature fluctuates according to the weather.
