Almanac is thrilled to be kicking off our FOURTH year of partnership with the Oakland LGBTQ+ Community Center. So far, we've raised over $15,000 to support their programming, and this year, we are hoping to raise even more funds with increased batch sizes and a wider distribution footprint.
We love our bright and bold rainbow beer cans, and we love stretching towards ambitious monetary donation goals, but we also want to take a moment to focus on why this campaign is so important to us, and why we've continued this partnership over the years.
Last week, a few team members paid a visit to the center to meet with Joe Hawkins, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the center. As we walked around the space, Joe told us stories about growing the center from a single, small office space to taking over nearly the entire building, and about expanding the programming from a few support groups to now having more than ten programs for community care including a food pantry, a health clinic, mental health services, housing assistance, and a brand new youth space.
Deepening our understanding of how the center has grown and transformed over the years to continue meeting more and more of our community's needs was truly extraordinary and we feel a deep well of gratitude to all the staff and volunteers that have made the Oakland LGBTQ+ Community Center the pillar of our community it is today.
