Can a beer be inspired by itself? Our new Flavor Wheel series is an experiment in spinning the wheel and exploring a single hop’s flavor and aroma profiles. The series features an eclectic ingredient list inspired by each hop variety’s sensory notes — we pick fruit, spices, and other unique additions that emulate what our brewers smell in each hop varietal.
First Up: Simcoe Flavor Wheel! To simulate Simcoe’s aromatic profile we added passionfruit, blueberry, spruce tips, beets, and coriander to our mixed fermentation, oak-aged base beer. And of course, Simcoe Flavor Wheel would not be complete without a generous addition of its namesake hop. The result is a trip around the flavor wheel that you won’t soon forget.
For the second in our series: Ekuanot Flavor Wheel! A new hop on the scene from the Pacific Northwest, this modern aroma hop is bursting with juicy fruit flavors. To amplify its fruity profile we added blueberry, papaya, orange and lime peel, and coriander to the barrel. After blending, we hit it with another dry-hop of its namesake hop, tying this hoppy sour farmhouse ale all together.
For the third in our series: Hallertau Blanc! A new German aroma hop bred to combine the sensibilities of southern hemisphere hops and old school german flavors. To amplify its fruity profile we added Gooseberry, Pineapple, Muscat Grape, Lemongrass, Passionfruit to the barrel. After blending, we hit it with another dry-hop of its namesake hop, tying this hoppy sour farmhouse ale all together.
